Perth, nestled on the mesmerizing Western coast of Australia, has a charm that is truly distinct and sets it apart. This metropolis effortlessly combines urban sophistication with natural wonders, boasting pristine beaches, expansive parklands, and a vibrant cityscape.
From the sun-kissed shores of Cottesloe Beach to the breath-taking beauty of Kings Park and Botanic Garden, Perth offers a plethora of captivating landscapes that consistently leave you in awe. However, apart from its physical beauty, what truly makes Perth special is its captivating culture that celebrates and embraces a laid-back lifestyle.

Just to clarify, the places I'll be sharing with you have no particular order, so feel free to explore them in any sequence you like. Hop on the TransPerth ferry from Elizabeth Quay. It’s a short, stunning ride that drops you right into the heart of the action at Mends Street Jetty. Before heading inland, walk along the wooden boardwalks of the foreshore to find that exact spot where the Swan River perfectly frames the city skyline. Grab a table at a spot like Mister Walker to enjoy a coffee or a meal while watching the boats cruise by, or head up Mends Street for a relaxed, leafy café vibe. You can easily spend an entire day or at least evening here just relaxing and taking a stroll along the water's edge. As the sun sets, stay to watch the horizon transform into a glowing canopy of city lights.

How to get to Rockingham foreshore?
You can drive there and it's 45 minutes' drive from Perth CBD. Navigating your way to Rockingham Foreshore from Perth CBD, or as our North American mates call it, Perth Downtown, is a piece of cake. So, assuming you've got your accommodation booked in the heart of Perth, here's the lowdown on how to reach the stunning Rockingham Foreshore using public transport.
Head to the Perth Underground Station and go straight to Platform 2. All trains to Rockingham Train Station leave from this platform on the Mandurah Line. Check the current train times on the Transperth Mandurah Line timetable before you go. Once you arrive, catch Bus 555 right outside the station. This shuttle takes you straight to the Rockingham Foreshore. You can plan your bus ride using the Transperth Route 555 timetable.

And there's a not far from Cape Peron called Penguin Island. Yup! You heard it right. Penguin Island, a short ferry ride from Shoalwater near Cape Peron, is where the penguins thrive.
Don't forget to bring your camera, as Cape Peron's stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife offer an ideal opportunity for capturing unforgettable memories to cherish for a lifetime.
How to get to Cape Peron?
Assuming you are already at Rockingham foreshore. (If you're not, scroll back up and read the Rockingham foreshore section to find out how to get to Rockingham foreshore first). Well, you've got a few options to consider.
If you're up for a bit of exercise and love a good stroll, walking from Rockingham Foreshore is the way to go. Picture this – a scenic journey that takes about an hour and 20 minutes. It's a bit of a trek, but the views make it totally worthwhile.
Now, if time is of the essence or you just want an easy ride, jump in your car. It's a mere 10-minutes' drive, and you'll find ample parking waiting for you at Cape Peron.
Now, for the best of both worlds – consider zipping over on an e-scooter. Not only do you get to relish the picturesque views just like walking, but you'll breeze through the journey without breaking a sweat. It's the ultimate way to make the most of your trip to Cape Peron. Beam E-scooters are available near Palm Street Jetty at Rockingham foreshore. As luck would have it, I am fortunate to live just half an hour away from this remarkable destination. With its proximity to home, I have the advantage of being able to explore the park's wonders whenever I desire, making it an ideal escape from Netflix.
Among the park's many attractions, two famous trails stand out: the Baldwins Bluff Trail and the Kittys Gorge Trail. The Baldwins Bluff Trail is a challenging yet rewarding hike, taking you on a scenic journey through the park's rugged terrain. As you ascend, you'll be treated to panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape, including the breath-taking Serpentine Falls. The trail offers an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, observing unique flora and fauna along the way.
Another notable trail within Serpentine National Park is the Kittys Gorge Trail. This moderately difficult hike meanders along the banks of the Serpentine River, offering a tranquil and picturesque experience.

Perth has thousands of kilometres and vast array of options available for hikers of all skill levels. Whether you prefer coastal walks, forest trails, or hillside treks, Perth has something to offer everyone who enjoys exploring the outdoors on foot.
Once you have visited Serpentine National Park, you might want to stop at Wungong regional Park on your way back. If you are too tired, you can plan a separate day for it.
This park is known for its picturesque bushland, expansive open spaces. One of the highlights of Wungong Regional Park is its extensive network of walking and cycling trails.
How to get to Wungong Regional Park?
Alright, let's break it down for you, especially if you're a tourist staying in the heart of Perth – CBD or as our North American friends call it, Perth Downtown.
So, if you're up for exploring the expansive Wungong Regional Park (and trust me, it's massive), my top pick for getting in is through the entrance on Southwestern Highway. The good news is you can even reach this spot using public transport. Handy, right? Check out the marker on the map to make life easier, especially if you're driving.
If you are travelling from Perth using public transport, take a train directly to Armadale Station. If there are scheduled maintenance works, you can easily catch a train replacement bus instead. Ride the train or the replacement bus all the way to the end of the line. You can check the current routes and schedules on the official Transperth Armadale Line timetable.
Once you're in Armadale, catch bus 251, which is now the primary bus service heading toward Byford following recent network updates in January 2026. You can check the current 2026 Bus 251 timetable here. Let the driver know you're heading to Wungong Regional Park; if they need a specific location, use Bus Stop 13114 on South Western Highway.
