For many travellers born outside the United States, the country exists in our imaginations long before we ever buy a plane ticket. We grow up consuming its culture through television screens, movies, and music, building a vivid mental picture of a place defined by towering skylines, vast open roads, and cinematic landmarks. When you finally experience the USA firsthand, the real magic lies in watching those lifelong pop-culture illusions seamlessly blend into lived personal realities.
Crossing the Pacific from Australia, my journey truly began in San Francisco, trading childhood television screens for the actual span of Golden Gate Bridge and the warmth of a long-awaited hometown reunion. From the historic streets of California, the route climbed north into the crisp, evergreen air of Seattle before crossing the border into Canada. After a magnificent chapter exploring Canadian landscapes, a final transit loop led back through Honolulu's island terminal gates to catch the connecting flight home.
